Accessibility at The Carter House and Carnton Plantation
Handicap parking spaces and curbside drop-off/pick-up are available in both The Carter House and Carnton Plantation parking lots.
The Visitors Center at The Carter House and the Fleming Center at Carnton are wheelchair accessible.
Standard, non-motorized wheelchairs are available free of charge inside the visitors centers on a first-come, first-served basis.
At Carter House, there are six steps required to access the first floor of the home. The tour also goes into the basement, which is a full set of stone steps. A companion guide is available upon request that includes photographs and information on all areas of the home.
At Carnton, the first floor is wheelchair accessible, but the tour goes to the second floor with a total of 22 steps. A companion guide is available upon request that includes photographs and information on the second floor of the historic house.
Certified service animals or service animals-in-training are welcome.
