Carnton Extended Tour
Tuesday through Saturday at 11:00 am.
Join us for a comprehensive walking tour of Carnton. The tour focuses on some elements of the Battle of Franklin, how Carnton was used as a field hospital, the history of the McGavock family and Confederate Cemetery, as well as the history of slavery at Carnton, in Tennessee, and across America.
The tour will visit five locations on the property. You will begin with a brief history of the site's early years, then proceed inside the house for approximately 45 minutes. From there, the tour will continue onto the slave quarters. Once finished, you will walk through the historic and recreated family garden before finishing in the family and Confederate cemeteries.
Arrive at Carnton at least 15 minutes prior to tour time. The Extended Tour lasts approximately 90 minutes. About 45 minutes will be inside and 45 minutes will be outdoors. This tour is not recommended for children under the age of ten or those with limited mobility. For questions, please contact Meagan Wuest at (615) 794-0903 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
