Restoration

The Battle of Franklin Trust manages three historic sites which include 14 historic structures spread over 250+ acres of protected battlefield, and is actively involved in restoration and preservation projects.

All of the historic structures built on the McGavock, Carter, and Cheairs Farms, including dwellings, cemeteries, and farm structures, were erected in the early to mid-1800s.  Once restored, each moves into its own preservation schedule.  Several, however, remain in need of restoration on some level.

2021 and 2022 will include work on the Carnton porches and parapet along the roofline, Carter House porch, reproduction carpeting, masonry repairs and repointing, and historic paint analysis.

The Battle of Franklin Trust partners with the State of Tennessee as well as local municipalities, but also relies on its own operations, endowment, grant agencies, and the generosity of donors.  The Trust donates 15% of every membership directly to the Battle of Franklin Endowment and the Spring Hill Endowment (10 and 5 percent, respectively) to protect and secure this American story. If you are interested in supporting restoration work, you may direct your gifts to a specific project, and/or to the Endowments.
